“This was the first painting that I put up for sale – I was very new to canvas, having mostly worked in books. I basically “sized up” my usual collage with colours and marks and patterns (there’s some bubble wrap printing on there!) I knew I wanted to paint bee-eaters – they were a definite obsession for a while, they’re such curious birds! They’re so bright, but they live in the desert where they sure do not blend in!! I wanted them to be on a background which highlighted just how beautiful they are, and encouraged the viewer to embrace how they stand out and that being colourful is awesome.”
